VisualTime Server software installation - recommended steps and procedures

Here are the recommended steps when performing a new VisualTime system deployment:
  1. If installing on IIS 7/7.5 make sure you have installed the  IIS 6.0 Management Compatibility Components.
  2. Make sure the Application Server profile (Active Server Pages) is installed on your IIS server and ASPX extensions are allowed AND a Default Website exists in IIS. If the Default Website has been deleted the VisualTime may fail to install.
  3. Please note that /visualtime application requires the associated application pool to be configured in classic mode and uses the NET Framework version 2.x.
  4. The /visualtime_web2 and /visualtime_rbf application require the .NET Framework version 4.x and and the associated app pool should be configured in Integrated mode. This is normally automatically configured by the VisualTime server setup program.
  5. Before launching the setup program you may need to  add an exception to the antivirus program for the target installation folder of VisualTime. It has been reported that certain antivirus programs (eg Symatec, TrendMicro) are reporting false positives and the VisualTime executable files may get removed. If that happens, most likely the VisualTime SMTP Service will need to be re-copied.
  6. You will need to provide the SA account username (or equivalent) and password for the SQL Server. Failure to do so will result in the inability to create the VisualTime database. These credentials are only used by the setup program during the installation phase. At run time, the application will use the built-in visualtime_user account in order to connect to the SQL Server.
  7. Choose the appropriate time zone for your location when prompted by the wizard.8 - Provide two different email addresses for guest and admin when prompted. Any two different character strings will be accepted. This can be changed later on via Management Console -> Users.
  8. The SMTP settings required by the installation wizard may be configured later on through the VisualTime Management Console. If you are using MS Exchange with NTLM / Integrated Windows Authentication please note that only basic authentication is supported at this time. The SMTP user needs to be specified as <domain>\<username>
